2019: trying something new

Since we already into week two of 2019 I thought it wise not to name this post anything relating to a New Year Resolution. But it is something of a resolution – something I want to do more of this year and going forward hoping to make it more of a habit.

Review: Cross and Burn

Someone is brutally killing women. Women who bear a striking resemblance to former DCI Carol Jordan. The connection is too strong to ignore and soon psychological profiler Tony Hill finds himself dangerously close to the investigation, just as the killer is closing in on his next target.

This is a killer like no other, hell-bent on inflicting the most severe and grotesque punishment on his prey. As the case becomes ever-more complex and boundaries begin to blur, Tony and Carol must work together once more to try and save the victims, and themselves.

Review: Things I want my daughters to know

How do you cope in a world without your mother?

When Barbara realizes time is running out, she writes letters to her four daughters, aware that they’ll be facing the trials and triumphs of life without her at their side. But how can she leave them when they still have so much growing up to do?

Take Lisa, in her midthirties but incapable of making a commitment; or Jennifer, trapped in a stale marriage and buttoned up so tight she could burst. Twentysomething Amanda, the traveler, has always distanced herself from the rest of the family; and then there’s Hannah, a teenage girl on the verge of womanhood about to be parted from the mother she adores.

But by drawing on the wisdom in Barbara’s letters, the girls might just find a way to cope with their loss. And in coming to terms with their bereavement, can they also set themselves free to enjoy their lives with all the passion and love each deserves?

This heartfelt novel by bestselling author Elizabeth Noble celebrates family, friends . . . and the glorious, endless possibilities of life.

Books I have read in 2017

My goal for 2017 in terms of reading was to read more books than I did in 2016 : A grand total of six non-fiction books.

In my mind I thought it would be closer to twenty five but looking back that seems to have been a bit unrealistic. I did however manage to read a total of 11 books; 8 non fiction and three of more of the self help / spiritual variety.

Reading really is a great means of escapism for me especially since I don’t watch all the latest and greatest Netflix and Showmax series that everyone else is always talking about. Related: I have only ever watched 5 minutes of a Game of Thrones episode. I love reading and think this year I will try read a bit more in terms of variety (maybe less of the violent nature).
